Hi all,
Got some new tyres fitted and was wondering if theres any benefit to getting proper 4 wheel alignment done on this type of car?
As I feel the steering wheel is very slightly off-centre to the right.
Thanks

I would say yes. Our E320cdi has worn out the inner edges of two tyres in just under a year. When we have the new tyres on, it's going for 4 wheel alignment.....
Tyres on ours incidentally are between £300-400 a pair! (17 inch.)

Any car with an adjustable chassis should have a full Geometry measured not just tracking.... The reason the MB chassis is so adjustable is that by design they knew over time the positions would change (naturally).

Hi all,
Whenever I get new tyres fitted to my car, I let 4 wheel alignment done to it. Having the steering wheel slightly off-centre to the right is i.m.h.o. typical MB of this class. I had this much stronger in the W124.
Regards,
Robert

I would go to a computerized wheel alighnment garage and get a full setup checked out. You will be amazed of the geomatrical difference and at around £50- £60 they are about 50% cheaper than MB as MB quoted me £120 for full tracking/alignment

Over the last few years I've settled for simple tracking and had it done around every 6 months. To be honest, whilst its solved the shakes its never been 100% and now things have come to a head with tramlining, bad inner tyre wear and after the last attempt to sort it, the wheels not straight either.
I'm planning on getting mine properly gone through in the very near future (certainly before I change any more tyres) and I suspect having the rear properly lined up again is probably a good idea every 20k or so.

97,000 Miles even tyre wear, never been tracked. Just proves that all cars are different.

That sounds a fairly demanding (and expensive) regime for something I am not aware of ever having done.
Once corrected, I would hope that alignment would last for longer. What do others find?

Those that drive up kerbs and onto the pavement are asking for trouble. for normal driving you know if you have hit a big pot hole as the car will feel different. If you have no wear in the suspension components then it should not be necessary to do it unless the car is steering badly, or the tyres are showing abnormal wear

Any juggernaut could do it, or a lamppost or bollard. But you had better have the T Cut handy!

But if you could get someone to do it with a 4W tracking machine then that would negate the serious injury part...

Mercedes W211 Wheel Alignment
Hello,
Can anyone tell me about wheel alignment for w211 e320 cdi,
the problem is i hit a kerb accidently of course !!.
The drivers side tyre is wearing on the inside edge only, steering is slightly to the right, my question is :
Halfords have quoted about £40 for 4 wheel alignment,
A local specialist has quoted £140 plus vat plus camber bolts if needed !
Please any suggestions most welcome.
Regards.

Just get it done if it hasn't been done if the steering feels off.
I had to replace both my front tyres on the 32 as the inside edges had worn down to 1 mm , the centres and outside edges were 6 and 7 mm respectively on both tyres. I hadn't hit a curb or pot hole hard, it just happens over time that the tracking and camber can go out of adjustment, just through general use over time.

Thanks Matt,
Would H_____ds or AT_ be able to do the alignment, as both charge about £50 for 4 wheel alignment

Yes no problem, though you shop around you could get it cheaper I'd go AT_ rather than H _ _ _ _ _ds if I had to choose.

Trouble is surfer_2010uk is in Manchester and the place you suggest is in London, therefore, not exactly round the corner I'd venture
